Arm laser hair removal
upper arms, forearms and hands

Arms are split into three items on our price list: upper arms, forearms, and hands with fingers. Forearms are chosen most often — the part visible all year round.

Treatment Area

What exactly this area covers

The split is anatomical and unambiguous:

01

Forearms

From the wrist to the elbow crease. The most often chosen option.

02

Upper arms

From the elbow to the shoulder. A separate item at the same price.

03

Hands and fingers

A separate, cheaper item — often added to the forearms.

04

Underarms not included

The underarms is a separate area.

Why This Area

Why arms are a different decision from legs

Forearm hair is, in most people, lighter and finer than on the legs, so before a series we always check whether it contains enough melanin for the laser to act on at all. This is the one area where we send some people away with the information that the result will be modest — and we would rather say it before the treatment than after the fourth session.

The second difference is sun exposure. Forearms and hands are uncovered all year, including winter driving. That means a real risk the skin is darker than it seems, requiring more careful parameters.

The third thing concerns the reason for the visit: with arms it is rarely about smoothness as with legs — more often about hair that is too dark against fair skin. In other words, reducing visibility, not complete removal.

The Session

What to expect during treatment

Time
forearms approx. 15 min, upper arms approx. 15 min, hands approx. 5 min
Series
6–8 sessions
Interval
every 6–8 weeks
Position
Sitting or lying, with the arm resting on a support

Position and coverage. Sitting or lying, with the arm resting on a support. We work in segments around the circumference.

Sensation. One of the gentler areas. More distinct only on the inner forearm, where the skin is thinner.

Hair colour assessment

During your consultation we check whether the hair is dark enough. If not — we say so before starting the series.

Shaving

The area shaved the day before the session.

Treatment

Work in segments around the arm's circumference, with cooling.

Afterwards

Redness for up to a few hours. SPF 50 on uncovered forearms for the whole series, including winter.

Number of Sessions

How many sessions and how far apart

At Velvet Skin Clinic we plan a series of 6–8 sessions in this area, every 6–8 weeks.

With finer, lighter hair the reduction progresses more slowly than on the legs or underarms — a matter of melanin in the hair shaft, not the number of sessions. The range is our clinic's protocol.

There is one reason a single session is never enough: the laser only affects follicles in their growth phase (anagen). At any given moment only part of the follicles in an area are in that phase — the rest are in catagen or telogen and do not respond to light. That is why sessions are repeated at intervals, to catch successive groups of follicles as they enter anagen (Natarelli et al., 2023, PMID 36769541).

Choosing the Device

Which laser for the arms

We do not use one laser for everything. The device for this area is chosen at your consultation, after assessing your skin phototype and the thickness and colour of the hair. For phototypes IV–VI, the choice of wavelength is a matter of safety, not convenience (Lee et al., 2026, PMID 41884758).

Thunder Quanta™

The 755 nm alexandrite has high melanin affinity, which can be an advantage with finer forearm hair.

LightSheer Duet™

Contact cooling and precision for hands and fingers.

Soprano Ice Platinum

For sensitive skin and for forearms, which are more often sun-exposed.

Prices

How much this area costs

Prices apply at both clinics. The longer the series, the lower the price per session. When treating several areas at once, package prices from the full price list apply.

Results

What changes with each session

Laser hair removal works over a series, not from one session to the next — below is what you can realistically see at each stage in this particular area. Results are individual and depend on hair colour and thickness, skin phototype, and hormonal factors.

Stage 1

After 1–2 sessions

Shedding after 7–21 days. If the hair is light, this is the stage where we can see whether the laser has anything to act on — and we talk about it openly.

Stage 2

After 3–4 sessions

Hair on the forearms becomes less noticeable against fair skin, because regrowing hair is finer and lighter. This is usually enough — with arms it is rarely about complete smoothness.

Stage 3

After the full series

The hair is much less visible. With fine, light hair the result is inherently weaker than on the legs or underarms — and we say so before the series, not after it.

Why you will find no before & after photos here

Because in laser hair removal such a photo would prove nothing. You arrive at the session shaved — a condition without which the laser cannot work properly. A "before" photo would therefore show shaved skin, and an "after" photo hair-free skin. Both look the same; the difference only appears two to three weeks later, when one of them does not grow back.

It is more honest to describe what changes and when — and to show reviews from people who completed a full series. Before-and-after photos make sense for treatments with immediately visible results, and we publish them in those categories.

Safety

What we watch for on the arms

Below are situations specific to this area. Contraindications common to all laser treatments — photosensitising medication, photosensitive epilepsy, cancer under active treatment, recent procedures in the area — are discussed during your consultation. Complications after laser treatments and how to manage them are described in a 2026 review (Nguyen et al., PMID 41797616).

Light, fine hair — the most common cause of a modest result in this area. We assess it before the series, not during it.
Tanning — forearms and hands are uncovered all year. A minimum of 4 weeks since your last tan, then SPF 50.
Pigmented moles and lentigines on the backs of the hands — avoided and protected.
Forearm tattoos — avoided entirely.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions — arms

Will the laser work on light arm hair?

No. The laser needs melanin in the hair shaft — blonde, grey and red hair contains too little. On the arms this happens more often than in other areas, so we always assess it during your consultation and say openly if the result will be modest.

Upper arms or forearms — how is it divided?

Forearms run from the wrist to the elbow, upper arms from the elbow to the shoulder. They are two separate items at the same price. Hands with fingers are a third, cheaper item.

How many sessions do arms need?

At our clinic we plan 6–8 sessions at 6–8 week intervals. With finer, lighter hair the reduction progresses more slowly — a matter of melanin, not the number of sessions.

Do I need to protect my arms from the sun during the series?

Yes, more than with other areas. Forearms and hands are uncovered all year, including winter driving. SPF 50 on these areas for the whole series.

Can I do just the hands and fingers?

Yes — it is a separate item and the cheapest of the group. It is often added to the forearms during the same visit, as the session takes about five minutes.

Will arm hair grow back darker after the laser?

No. Hair regrowing after laser is usually finer and lighter than before. The impression of darker hair comes from shaving, where the cut tip is blunt and looks thicker.
