Spider veins, dilated capillaries, redness that returns with every emotion and every change in temperature — we close them with the Dye-VL and Nd:YAG duo, one of the most capable combinations on the market. At your consultation we will assess whether these are individual vessels or persistent redness across the whole face — and we will select the wavelength and the number of treatments.
Visible thread veins (telangiectasia, commonly called spider veins) and redness are the result of permanently dilated, weakened blood vessels just below the surface of the skin. For some people these are single red threads on the sides of the nose or on the cheeks; for others they take the form of diffuse redness that intensifies with emotion, exertion, alcohol or a change in temperature. It is often accompanied by a burning sensation and a feeling of a hot face.
Skin prone to redness tends to be sensitive and reactive, and over time the redness has a tendency to become permanent. The good news is that light and laser can selectively close abnormal vessels without damaging the surrounding skin. At Velvet Skin Clinic we combine two complementary technologies for this purpose — and we match them to whether we are working on a single vessel or on diffuse redness.
We work on the principle of selective photothermolysis: the energy is absorbed by the haemoglobin inside the vessel, converts into heat and closes it, and the body gradually absorbs the vessel. Dye-VL IPL technology works very well on diffuse redness and on many fine vessels at once, while the Nd:YAG laser suits single, thicker vessels. Where redness is accompanied by rosacea, we add gentle support to the therapy, for example an azelaic acid peel.
We work with a duo of vascular technologies — Dye-VL IPL and the Fotona Nd:YAG laser — which lets us match the method precisely to the type of vessels and the intensity of the redness.

Fair, thin, sensitive skin has weaker vessel walls. The tendency often runs in the family — thread veins appear more easily and earlier.
Sun, frost, sudden changes in temperature, alcohol, spicy food, stress and hot baths dilate the vessels and make the redness more permanent.
A chronic skin condition in which redness, thread veins and flushing are the leading signs. It calls for gentle, carefully considered management.
Distinct red threads on the nose, cheeks or chin. These respond best to the precise Nd:YAG laser, which closes a specific vessel.
Redness covering larger areas of the face and intensifying with emotion. Dye-VL IPL technology comes into its own here.
The redness is accompanied by papules, burning and reactivity. We combine vascular treatments with gentle skincare and an azelaic acid peel.
We assess the type of vascular lesions and the intensity of the redness at your consultation — that determines whether we choose laser, light or a combination of the two.
At the heart of the therapy is the Dye-VL and Nd:YAG duo — light for diffuse redness, laser for individual vessels. We complement them with methods that calm the skin. Each one has its own dedicated page.
IPL technology designed among other things for vascular lesions — it reduces diffuse redness and many fine vessels at once, improving the overall colour of the skin along the way.
The Fotona Nd:YAG laser precisely closes single, thicker vessels — including the more difficult ones on the sides of the nose. Targeted, effective correction.
A non-ablative laser with no downtime — it gently improves the quality and colour of sensitive skin prone to redness when recovery time is not an option.
An azelaic acid peel — it calms redness and rosacea lesions, supporting the result of vascular treatments on reactive skin.
| Method | Works best on | Result | Course |
|---|---|---|---|
| Dye-VL (IPL) | diffuse redness, many fine vessels | less redness, an even skin colour | usually a course of 3–5 treatments |
| Nd:YAG laser | single, thicker vessels | targeted closure of the vessel | 1–3 treatments |
| ClearLift | sensitive skin, no time for downtime | a gentle improvement in skin colour | a course |
| Azelaic Peel | redness with rosacea | calming of reactive skin | a supporting course |
Laser therapy and IPL are among the best documented methods of reducing redness and telangiectasia. Below are the publications on which we base our choice of technology.
The Cochrane review “Interventions for rosacea” identifies laser and light as effective methods of reducing redness and telangiectasia.
van Zuuren et al. (Cochrane) · PubMed →A split-face study compared a laser with an IPL handpiece in the treatment of facial telangiectasia — both methods significantly reduced the vessels.
Tanghetti, 2012 · PubMed →The paper describes the choice of pulse duration for the 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of telangiectasia — the basis of precise vessel closure.
Parlette et al., 2006 · PubMed →Informational and educational material — it does not replace a medical consultation. The studies cited concern the methods as a group; results are individual.
After analysing your skin we select the technology and the settings. The treatment itself is quick and well tolerated — the sensation is like the flick of an elastic band. Immediately afterwards the skin may look red, and fine vessels may darken briefly before they are absorbed.
Assessment of the type of vessels and redness, a medical history and the choice of technology.
Cleansing of the skin, eye protection and settings matched to your skin phototype.
Selective closure of the vessels with energy — targeted or across a larger area.
The vessels gradually fade; the redness decreases over a course of treatments.
The treatment closes existing vessels, but the tendency to form them remains. Everyday prevention genuinely slows the appearance of new lesions and keeps redness from becoming permanent.
SPF all year round — the sun is one of the main factors that weaken vessels and intensify redness.
Cut back on hot baths, saunas, spicy food and alcohol; protect your face from frost and wind.
No aggressive exfoliation or scrubbing. Products for skin prone to redness strengthen the vessel walls.
For a few days avoid saunas, intense exercise and sun exposure so that your skin can recover calmly.
Periodic top-up sessions help keep redness and new vessels in check.

Karolina · 2024review from BooksyVascular treatments are always preceded by a medical history. The main contraindications and situations that call for caution:
If the redness comes with pronounced rosacea symptoms, we deliver part of the therapy in cooperation with a dermatologist.
A light or laser treatment closes the existing vessels and those usually do not come back. Because the tendency to form thread veins remains, however, new ones may appear over time — which is why it is worth supporting the result with prevention and periodic maintenance treatments.
The Nd:YAG laser works precisely and in a targeted way — it is best at closing single, thicker vessels. Dye-VL IPL technology covers a larger area and suits diffuse redness and many fine vessels. We often combine the two methods.
The sensation is like a gentle flick of an elastic band against the skin and is well tolerated by most people. We increase comfort with cooling. After the treatment the skin may stay red for anything from a few hours to a few days.
Single vessels sometimes disappear after 1–2 treatments, while diffuse redness usually calls for a course of 3–5 sessions. The exact plan depends on the severity of the lesions and we agree it at your consultation.
Yes — laser and light effectively reduce the redness and thread veins that are the leading sign of rosacea. We deliver the therapy gently and combine it with suitable skincare; in more severe cases we work together with a dermatologist.
The price depends on the method, the size of the area and the number of treatments. We provide a quote at your consultation, and full rates are available in the price list. The consultation includes a skin analysis.
Treatments at Velvet Skin Clinic are performed by certified cosmetologists with many years of experience in laser therapy, hi-tech devices and skin care treatments. After a consultation we match the method and the specialist to your skin and your goal.
