Crystalys — calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA)

Crystalys™ is a filler based on calcium hydroxyapatite, used to improve skin volume and contour the shape of the face. It works by rebuilding the skin's structure and stimulating the production of natural collagen — the soft-tissue protein responsible for skin elasticity and firmness. Treatment with Crystalys gives an immediate and long-lasting result, lasting up to 2 years, depending on the amount of formula used and the patient's skin properties and age.

Why collagen declines with age

As the skin ages, we see a decrease in the number and activity of fibroblasts, resulting in a reduction of the main structural elements of the extracellular matrix — collagen and elastin. The Crystalys formula supports collagen production and provides a filling and volumising effect in two stages.

Immediate stage: the treated areas of the face are immediately filled and given more support, so the result is visible straight after the treatment. Long-term stage: the calcium hydroxyapatite microspheres form a scaffold that supports fibroblast growth, and these fibroblasts build new collagen structures. As the subcutaneous calcium hydroxyapatite gradually breaks down, new collagen forms in its place, so the face not only regains lost volume but also sees a significant improvement in skin quality.

Volume + collagen

Immediate filling, followed by gradual synthesis of your own collagen as the microspheres are absorbed.

Crystalys is made up of round, uniform, non-porous, smooth microspheres of calcium hydroxyapatite, 25–45 microns in diameter. This size allows the formula to be injected smoothly and minimises the risk of particle migration, ensuring predictable treatment results.

09 — Treatment procedure

What to expect Crystalys treatment

First, the doctor takes a medical history to rule out any contraindications. The skin is then numbed with a specialist ointment. After 30–40 minutes, the doctor administers the formula subcutaneously using a cannula or fine needle. The treatment takes around half an hour and immediately gives a fuller, more supported facial contour. It is minimally invasive — the patient can return to daily activities right after the treatment.

Specialist numbing ointment; a 30–40 minute wait.

Administering the formula

Cannula or fine needle, administered subcutaneously in areas of volume loss.

10 — Aftercare

Aftercare recommendations — Crystalys

The treatment requires no downtime, but it's worth taking care of the treated areas in the first few days. Immediately after the treatment, localised swelling and redness may occur, and bruising if a blood vessel is affected; these effects are temporary and usually resolve within a few days.

Don't massage the injection sites

No massaging or kneading the injection area — unless the doctor specifically advises otherwise.

Avoid the sauna and sunbeds

For 2 weeks, avoid the sauna, sunbeds and intense sun exposure.

Protect your skin with SPF

For 4 weeks, use a cream with SPF 30–50.

Reactions are temporary

Swelling, redness or bruising usually pass within a few days.

Give collagen time

The full effect develops over the following weeks and months as collagen rebuilds.

How does Crystalys differ from hyaluronic acid?

A hyaluronic acid filler mainly provides immediate volume. Crystalys works in two stages: it fills and supports the tissue straight away, and over the following months stimulates collagen production, improving skin quality. How long do Crystalys results last?
