Skin laxity and loss of facial contour

Is your facial contour blurring, the skin losing firmness along the jawline and cheeks? We have the full range of lifting without a scalpel — from firming the surface to tightening the deep layers. At your consultation we will assess the degree of laxity — and select the technology and the depth at which it works.

02 — What it is

What skin laxity and loss of facial contour are

Skin laxity and a blurring facial contour are among the most common reasons a face begins to look tired and older. The jawline loses its definition, jowls appear, the cheeks drop and the skin along the neck and jaw becomes lax.

It is the result of several processes at once: collagen and elastin in the skin decline, the deeper supporting layer of the face (the SMAS) weakens and descends, the fat pads shrink and slide down, and the bony support recedes. That is why effective non-surgical lifting has to work at different depths — a single device is not enough.

See the details

At Velvet we work with the whole range of lifting without a scalpel and match it to how advanced the problem is. The quality and surface firmness of the skin respond to microneedling radiofrequency, Fotona lasers and thermal lifting. Focused HIFU ultrasound reaches the deep layers, right down to the SMAS. We also support the contour from within — with collagen biostimulation.

The advantage lies not in one “miracle” treatment but in matching the depth of action and often combining methods into a protocol. That is something a clinic with a single laser cannot do — and it translates directly into firmer skin and a sharper line to the face.

04 — Causes

Where laxity and a dropping contour come from

Falling collagen and elastin

The skin loses its elasticity and stops springing back along the jawline and cheeks.

Weakening of the SMAS layer

The deep supporting layer of the face descends — it is what governs the dropping of the features.

Volume loss and gravity

The loss of fat and the pull of gravity reveal jowls and blur the contour.

05 — Recognition

Recognise the degree of laxity

Early laxity

The skin begins to lose firmness and the contour blurs slightly. The best moment to act — surface methods are enough.

Moderate

Visible jowls and a blurred jawline. Here we usually combine work on the surface with the deeper layers.

Advanced

Clear sagging and excess skin. Energy can improve firmness; where the excess is substantial, surgery is also worth considering.

Not sure which group you fall into? We will assess it at your consultation and select the method.

07 — How we help

How we help with laxity and loss of facial contour

We match the technology to the depth of the problem, and often combine several into a single protocol. Below are the options, from surface action to tightening of the deep layers — each with its own page and price.

Treatment

HIFU Ultraformer III™

Focused ultrasound reaches the SMAS layer — tightening of the deep structures, a “lift without surgery”.

Treatment

Fotona™ 4D laser lift

A multi-layer Er:YAG and Nd:YAG laser lift — firmness and better skin quality.

Treatment

Vivace microneedling RF

Radiofrequency delivered through microneedles — collagen remodelling, firmness and smoothing.

Treatment

NIR thermal lifting

Non-invasive heating of the dermis — firming with no recovery time.

Treatment

Maximus Trilipo

Radiofrequency with dynamic muscle activation — reshaping and firming of the facial contour.

Programme

5-Step Collagen Boost

A combined collagen stimulation protocol — comprehensive support for the contour from within.

Treatment

SMOOTH™ laser lift

In SMOOTH mode the 2940 nm Er:YAG delivers energy deep into the skin purely thermally — with no vaporisation of the epidermis and no recovery time. It works on the firmness and density of the skin itself; it does not tighten the supporting layer the way HIFU does.

Treatment

PIANO™ laser thermal lifting

With an ultra-long pulse, the 1064 nm Nd:YAG heats the dermis evenly to 40–45°C — collagen fibres contract and rebuild. We reach for it when the contour loses density over a larger area; this is thermal lifting within the dermis, not tightening of the SMAS layer.

09 — How we choose the therapy

Let us talk about how we can help you — we will take care of the rest

We start with a conversation

You describe what concerns you — jowls, a blurred jawline, dropping cheeks.

Assessing the depth

We assess which layer the problem sits in — the skin, the collagen or the deep structures.

Choosing the technology

We choose the method (or a combined protocol) matched to how advanced the laxity is.

The course and maintenance

Energy sets collagen remodelling in motion; we plan the course and the maintenance of the result.

10 — Why it works

What the research says

Lifting without a scalpel rests on the physics and biology of the skin: controlled heat contracts existing collagen and sets the formation of new collagen in motion. Below is the evidence for the technologies we work with.

HIFU

Skin tightening sustained for up to 12 months

A prospective follow-up after a single micro-focused ultrasound (MFU-V) treatment showed the lifting effect was sustained for up to a year: less sagging (79%), fewer lines and wrinkles (58%), smoother skin (47%).

Microneedling RF

An increase in collagen and elastin

A histological and clinical analysis of microneedling radiofrequency showed an increase in collagen and elastin density and a 20–60% improvement in wrinkles and skin laxity.

Er:YAG laser

Smoothing and remodelling of the skin

The fractional 2940 nm Er:YAG laser improves wrinkles and the quality of photoaged skin with a shorter recovery time than classic ablative resurfacing.

An individual approach

Which technology (or combination of them) will work for you depends on the depth of the laxity and the quality of your skin. We build the protocol after an assessment — there is no single solution for everyone.

Informational and educational material — it does not replace a medical consultation. Results are individual and depend on the concern, the method and the number of treatments.

12 — Why Velvet Skin Clinic

Our approach

A full range of lifting

We have technologies for every layer — from the surface to the SMAS. We match them to you rather than selling “one miracle”.

Combined protocols

The best result often comes from combining methods — something a clinic with a single device cannot do.

Honest boundaries

If the laxity is advanced, we will say plainly when a surgeon is the better choice.

13 — Questions and answers

Frequently asked questions about non-surgical facelifts

Does non-surgical lifting really work?

Yes, within the right range. Energy-based technologies contract existing collagen and stimulate the formation of new collagen, which genuinely improves the firmness of the skin and the contour. They will not replace surgery where there is a large excess of skin — and we say so honestly when that is the case.

Which technology is best for me?

It depends on the depth of the laxity and the quality of your skin. Surface methods work on early laxity, HIFU reaches the deep layers, and we often combine them into a protocol. The choice follows an assessment at your consultation.

How long does the effect last?

Once collagen remodelling is under way the effect builds over several months and usually lasts 12–18 months, depending on the method and the skin. Maintenance helps to extend the result.

What recovery time do the treatments need?

Most methods let you carry on with your day — temporary redness or swelling is possible. The amount of downtime depends on the technology; we discuss it before the treatment.

When is a surgeon the better choice?

With very advanced laxity and a large excess of skin, the effect of energy-based methods is limited. At your consultation we will say plainly if we recommend a surgical opinion.

How much does it cost?

The cost depends on the technology chosen and the number of treatments in the course. You will find prices on the pages of the individual treatments; we agree the plan and the quote at your consultation. (Price list — to be completed.)
